Always prefer the natural solutions, Citronella, Rosemary Oil and Cedar Oil are all natural repellents. Keep your dog cleaned and brushed regularly. Please be careful with fly control products near the eyes, nose and mouth of your pet.

Keep the area that he lives in CLEAN! Dog poop or wet dog food sitting out can attract flies. Clean the area where you dog hangs out. Dog feces attracts flies, so pick up every day. If you dog lies in a special spot, clean that area also.

If he’s near an area by the garbage cans; Make sure that the garbage cans are regularly cleaned…Plain boiling water is an excellent (and inexpensive) way to kill maggots in garbage cans. Put up some fly paper near his feeding area. Fly traps are excellent for use around pets, in the yard, kennel and garbage containers. I know FlyRelief can be really helpful.

Houseflies (black, non-glossy body) and blowflies (metallic blue/green/gold body) are the most common types found around homes — both are categorized as “filth flies.” Houseflies are attracted more toward animal manure and decayed food, while the blowfly is attracted more to decayed meat (road kill) or fish. Both can be found around garbage. Houseflies will be more dominant around farms and animals, while the blowfly will be more dominant around wooded areas, waterways, and more populated human habitations.

The following products should not be applied to the eyes or mucous membranes of dogs or any other animals. Contact your veterinarian for medication to heal and protect the eyes from biting flies and other insects, and always follow product label instructions.

Diaper Rash Cream

Outdoor dogs with ears and noses that have been bit by flies can be treated with diaper rash cream that contains zinc oxide. It’s gentle enough for a baby’s bottom, and it works well to heal bites from flies and other insects. Apply a little diaper rash cream that contains zinc oxide to the noses and ears of your outdoor dogs. Not only will it help heal existing bites, but it will also help repel flies and other insects.

Petroleum Jelly

If you don’t have diaper rash cream but have petroleum jelly, until you can get to the store, apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to the ears and the noses of your outdoor canines. It will provide some relief from the pain and itching, and it will help keep the flies at bay. It’s safe to use since it’s nontoxic, but it’s not as effective at healing and keeping away flies as diaper rash cream.

Pet-Guard Gel

My friend purchased Pet-Guard Gel from our local pet store, and she said it worked very well to keep flies away from her outdoor dogs. It’s safe to use on the entire coat and around the face, but the eyes must be avoided. Visit Allivet.com to learn more about Pet-Guard Gel, and to purchase this amazing product.

Flys-Off

Another fantastic product to keep flies and other insects away from outdoor dogs is Flys-Off. My friend hasn’t tried Flys-Off, but I’ve heard good things about this insect repelling product.

Also when there are that many flies bothering a dog it is because there is an infection or an open wound somewhere. Locate the source (ears for example) and take him to a vet for meds.
<div

A dog that refuses to eat might be experiencing some emotional or physical ailments. If your dog refuses to eat, take your dog to the vet immediately.

2.	Don’t give your puppies or dogs table scraps or real bones. They are hard to digest and may cause bleeding. Purchase commercial dog food. The commercially available varieties are carefully studied to give complete nutrition for dogs.

3.	A change in the behavior of your older dog can be caused by a multitude of conditions that appear on the onset of old age. Have your veterinarian check your dog for muscle or joint pain.

4.	To make traveling easier for you and your puppy, take your puppy on short playing and treat trips. This will help your puppy become accustomed to riding in cars.

5.	Try to be sensitive to your dog’s behavior and moods. Dogs also get stressed so try to cheer up your pet when you think it’s lonely.

6.	Know your dog’s common illness, and read up on what you may do when you think your dog has them.

7.	Bring squeaky toys and chew bones with you on a trip so your dog doesn’t get too bored being cooped up the car.

8.	Fleas love a moist wet environment. Always make sure your dog is dry when it comes into the house. Dry your dog thoroughly after baths too.

9.	Check the pet shop or consult with your vet regarding the amount of food you should give your dog. It will vary according to the size and breed of your dog.

10.	Talk to other dog owners. They might have tips and tricks on handling your pet.

11.	For quick relief from itching caused by flea bites, cover an 8-inch segment of your dog’s coat with cooking oil and rub with garlic powder.

12.	Buy dog treats that have calories per serving written at the back. A table of nutrients as well as ingredients is also a plus so you’ll know what your dog is getting.

13.	You can eliminate excess gas by elevating your dog’s food dish so your dog doesn’t swallow too much air.

14.	A portable exercise pen is a good housetraining tool for pups. You can leave your pups outside without fear that they’ll run into the street.

15.	Water should always be readily available to your dog at any time of the day. Dogs don’t have sweat glands and need plenty of water to cool down.

16.	Buy dog supplements rich in glucosamine, calcium and antioxidants to maintain healthy bones and muscles on your pet.

17.	Make sure balls for fetch and chewing are large enough that they won’t get lodged in your dog’s throat.<img

Chocolate can be fatal to dogs. Make sure your dog doesn’t accidentally eat any. If your dog does, take your dog immediately to a vet.

19.	Equal amounts of vinegar and water can get rid of any skunk smell that your dog might get. Just wash your dog with this solution, shampoo and then rinse again with plain water.

20.	A microchip implant, if you can afford it, is a great investment if you don’t want your dog to get lost. This is especially useful if you remove your dog’s collars often.

21.	Chicken and other bird bones break off into sharp pieces. Never give these to your dog because the bones may puncture your dog’s throat or intestines.
<div

Remember, though, that no amount of chewy bones or sneaky toys can ever take the place of affection and attention between owner and pet, so make sure you spend time with your furry friend daily and let him know how important he is in your life.

Dogs love to play games, so one of the obvious gifts for your pet is a ball or toy that he can play with individually or with you. Some dogs favor squeaky toys but you should exercise your caution – toys should be well constructed so there is no danger of your pet chewing the squeaker out and swallowing it.

Another longtime favorite is the rope toy that allows your dog to chew to his heart’s content without ruining any furniture or shoes. You can also use the rope to play tug-of-war with your furry friend. Most pet stores carry a wide range of toys to amuse even the most blasé of dogs but the average dog will be fine with some bones and a ball or two.

A good choice for summertime is a hard plastic pool filled with water. Your canine friend will delight in splashing in and out of the cool water, and it will keep him cool and hydrated even in the hottest months. Avoid buying any soft inflatable pools since hard doggie nails can puncture the plastic and quickly turn a pool party into a party pooper.

Show your dog how important he is by spending regular time with him both in play and in relaxation, and the two of you will enjoy a rich relationship for many years to come.<br

In some parts of the country, it is almost unheard of to let a dog live outside in the yard. In other places, this is a fairly common way to keep the family pet. In some cases people simply believe a dog’s place is outside by the dog house. But in many other instances a behavior problem has caused the family to isolate the dog, outside the home. Some of the most common behaviors include housebreaking issues, barking problems and destructive chewing. Invariably the dog’s owner has not invested the proper time to actually resolve those problems. And in fact, placing a dog outside may cause new issues. Dogs left unattended for long periods of time often engage in boredom behaviors such as incessant barking and digging. If we merely train the dog to toilet outside and behave well in the home, you can enjoy a much richer experience as a pet owner than you can when your dog is chained or fenced outside.

Some people believe that the dog offers more protection for the family when outside the house, and this factors into the housing decision. In reality, a dog always offers more security to the home when kept inside. First, dogs left outside may bark so much that family and neighbors learn to ignore them. Second, a would-be burglar will find it an easy matter to just poison your dog if he really wants entry. Think about it from the burglar’s point of view for a moment. Which is more frightening? Seeing a dog on a chain, or being surprised by the barking when you touch the doorknob? Some of the best watch dogs are not very impressive in terms of size. But they make up for size with extreme alertness and noise making. In order to really share live on a deep level we must also share hearth and home. This means we must take the trouble to teach house rules to our dogs so they can stay out of trouble and truly become part of the family. Many dog trainers specialize in helping owners convert outside dogs to inside dogs. Did you think it can’t be done? Of course it can. If you keep your dog outside, you have little more than a living lawn ornament. Bring your dog in, teach him how to function successfully, and you have a best friend who will sleep by your door, and keep one eye open for security. Are you losing your pets to accidents? Do they wander and never return? Show them that you care. Keep your pets safe from harm with the <a

Dogs are often described as man’s best friend. Dogs are loving, caring, helpful and protective toward their master and family. Dogs are companions and co-workers to people of all walks of life. Dogs willingly work alongside and are more than willing to play with their companions in life. Doesn’t your dog deserve his picture displayed in a frame of his own?

Dog owners generally consider their dog as part of the family. When it is time for a formal family portrait to be done, the four-legged member of the family is often taken to the groomer to be tidied up so that he can put his best paw forward in a photo. Often owners will have professional portraits made of this special member of the family. There are professional photographers who specialize in dog photography. These portraits are often displayed along with portraits of other family members. There are frames available today that are expressly designed for that four-pawed member of the family.

No matter what the taste of the dog owner, or the personality of the dog, there is a frame that will express the dog’s personality to the world. Designers of frames for the family dog have created frames ranging from formal to whimsical when it comes to displaying the family pet. Frames can be formal, suitable for the most regal and formal of dogs to the cute and funny for the four-footed pet that brings laughter and joy into the household.

The family companion can be displayed with pride in a frame that leaves no doubt to the viewer as to the devotion displayed by both the dog and the dog’s master. Few will ever doubt the love and affection provided by the dog when the image of the animal is displayed in a frame designed expressly for the dog.

Picture frame materials can range widely. Materials used in construction include pewter, leather, wood ceramics and polished metal. Dog picture frames come in all sizes and are made to fit standard size photographs without trimming. Dog pictures can be displayed individually or placed within a group of other framed pictures. The individualized frame for the dog sets it apart from other pictures in the group.

To ensure that there is no doubt as to whose picture the frame is intended for, dog picture frames are often decorated with dog themes. These themes include bones, balls, dog biscuits or paw prints. This added decoration ensures that the dog is known and loved as a member of the family.

There are dog frames that are breed specific. These enable those uninitiated to dog culture to readily identify which breed of dog is owned. Most of the breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club can be represented on the picture frame. The owner of a Golden Retriever can proudly display his or her dog in a tasteful frame with the breed of the dog proudly incorporated into the frame.

There are few dog owners who do not consider the four-pawed resident of their home a member of the family. These canine family members can have their picture displayed in a frame that befits their unique status. It matters not if the dog came from humble beginnings or an expensive breeder. The dog may or may not have registration papers but the only paper that really counts is the picture of the dog displayed in a picture frame that shows the love and devotion on both sides of the family.
<table

There are so many different styles such as, ceramic dog bowls, stainless steel dog bowls and large dog bowls and those are just three different kinds! The different styles are designed to fit with the personality of your dog as well as the kind of breed that it is. For example, you do not want to get a raised dog bowl if you have a smaller pooch.

Some owners, for instance, will prefer a stainless steel dog food bowl and dog water dish, as opposed to a ceramic or rubber one. Stainless steel is much easier to keep clean. As well, it does not chip and it is difficult to scratch. Chips and deep scratches can hold germs. That can lead to an infection for your pooch, and you certainly do not want that.

Now, as to the size of your dog – well, that is fairly self explanatory. A small dog will, of course, prefer a small dog dish, while a large dog will prefer a bigger one. If you have more than one dog, then you may want to use large dog bowls as well, although that is hardly your only option.

Big dogs for example, especially Great Danes and any larger breed may need to have a dog bowl stand so they do not strain their neck when they are leaning down to eat or drink. Dog stands are not all that expensive and they are totally worth it if you have a larger breed dog.

Using an elevated dog bowl is also an ideal way to discourage food fighting between your dogs. A lot of people these days, for instance, have a large dog and a small one. Perhaps it is a dachshund and a lab, or even a cocker spaniel and a Pomeranian mix. Either way, you get the idea. Using an elevated bowl for the larger breed can keep the little one from eating up all the food!

Of course, you might have to try out a couple of bowls made from different materials. You will want to see what your dog likes best as well. Even a big dog might prefer a small bowl, for instance. Likewise, a small dog might like a larger one.

It is not uncommon for dogs who get along to be wary of sharing their food bowls. This is another instance where a dog food stand can be extremely beneficial. If you are averse to that, just make sure you have a set of bowls for each dog. Still, though, having the bowls on a stand can also prevent any kitty cats from getting into the puppy chow.

You can now see why it is so important to consider so many different things when you are picking out dog dishes for your beloved family member. You want him or her to be happy, after all. Your dog needs to be happy with the size, shape, and make of his or her dishes. That way, eating and drinking will be pleasurable experiences.<br

But, it takes a great deal of care to keep the coat in tip-top condition. Fortunately, it is easy to learn how to care for your Yorkie’s coat.

Their fuzz is incredibly soft & honeyed and is often referred to as being very similar to human hair. This fact is wonderful for people that are perhaps allergic to common animal fur.

Most shampoo made for persons can actually irritate the integument of Yorkshire Terriers. Yorkie integument has a lower tolerance to clean up solutions than human integument does. One of the causes of irritation is that Yorkie integument has different PH needs; so using a human’s shampoo can dry your pooches integument out causing annoyance to you and him.

Before you bathe your dog, it is essential to develop the worst of the kinks out of his coat. If you have kept up with his grooming, this should not be too difficult.

When washing your Yorkie’s coat, don’t scrub it excessively. The clean up action of the hair soap will lift the dirt without scrubbing, and you take the chance of tangling the coat. It is smart to use a tearless hair soap nearby the eyes and face.

Rinse thoroughly; leftover hair soap can irritate the skin. subsequent shampooing, condition the hair with a light conditioner. Let it sit for a while, as directed, then rinse it out.

One of the best things about giving your dog a bath can be drying him off. Because his body hair can easily be tangled into an aggravated mess at this point, you may try bundling him up with a soft absorbent towel and doing some one on one cuddle time. Taking advantage of his awesome snuggly goodness can be rewarding to both of you.

When your full-breed is no longer dripping, it is time to develop his hair into tip-top shape.

Before you comb your Yorky lightly mist their coat with a solution of warm water & a conventional mild Yorkie conditioner this will assist to soften the coat. If you groom the coat completely dry it can make it harder to work through any kinks & there is more chance that you will break the hair.

Keep away from the pin brushes that have the little balls on the ends of the pins as they have a tendency to pull at the coat & break the fine hair.

Finally, take a long tined metal comb, and brush through the coat. It is amazing how many small snags remain, even anon a thorough brushing.

To complete your Yorkshire terrier’s look, it is essential to do a few touch-ups.

Some owners prefer to keep their Yorkshire terriers clipped short for ease, this is a great intention but you must ensure that you are prepared to keep this up every few months.

It is equally essential to care for your Yorkie’s feet. The tresses between the pads should be trimmed so that it is level with the pads. at the same time as you can shape the tresses encircling the feet at this time, it is easier to wait until succeedent you finish his bath.

Some pups develop what has been accepted as “dingle berries”. This is excrement handing from the Yorkie’s fuzz nearby his anus. Sometimes the excrement can actually cover the anus so extensively the full-breed cannot relieve himself. Thus trimming the fuzz nearby the anus opening can and will effectively prevent the condition accepted as “dingle berries”.

Often Yorkies will develop excess tresses inside their ears. This needs to be plucked, or your Yorkie will have an increased take a chance of infection.

With ear clean up solution, use some small gauze squares to freshen his ears. Never put anything small like Q-tips into his ears, it is easy to accidentally damage his eardrums.

Many persons use a bow to tie up the body hair between the canine’s ears. A lot of persons mistake the band or bow placed so perfectly in the canine’s tresses as completely a decorative piece, in truth without it the canine’s body hair would be constantly in its eyes.

If the worst happens & you accidentally clip the quick, do not panic, have some powder to hand even talcum powder will do & pop some onto the claw in question. The powder will aid in coagulating the blood therefore stemming the flow.

Brush his teeth succeedent each bath, and have them checked annually by your vet.

The two main reasons for regular cleaning and combing are: If your Yorky looks great he/she will feel great. As you are cleaning and combing you can check for any sores, lumps or cuts on your dog.

Help to keep your Yorkie joyful & strong by cleaning and combing him/her regularly, and don’t forget that if your dog is joyful you are happy!
dog grooming tools; you will want a small slicker brush and a fine toothed comb. As a puppy is young it is a good idea to brush and comb him every day. If your puppy is not by now in the habit of having his nails clipped it is great to start this now rather than waiting and battling a 70 pound dog. Human nail clippers can be used on puppies until they are about 3 months old. These make it easier to take away just the tips of tiny nails. Be certain to clip the dewclaws if these have not been removed.

Check your dog’s ears regularly, and even if they do not look dirty, get him used to having a cotton swab soaked in a little ear cleaner run around the inside of the ear. Lift up your dog’s lips and inspect the mouth. Your puppy will become used to being examined and having sensitive parts of his body handled, and you will learn what is normal for your dog, making it easier to spot potential problems before they require more serious attention.

How much coat care a mature dog wants will depend on the nature of coat he carries. A greatly coated dog with ample of feathering will call for further upkeep than a dog with less coat and sparse feathers. A dog has to have at least one session of brushing weekly, although some situations require additional care. All sorts of brushes, shedders and matt splitters are available; although all that is actually required are a large slicker brush and a comb.

Areas that require special attention are the feathers of the front and rear legs, the tail feathers and the fine hair just underneath and behind the ears. All of these areas are prone to matting due to scratching, chewing or things getting caught in the longer hair. Dogs shed their coats twice a year. When this occurs will depend on the climate in your area. When your dog sheds, his fine undercoat is lost en masse, often in clumps. During periods of shedding you may wish to brush your dog using a dog brush like Little Pals Brush several times a day to keep the fine undercoat from ending up all over the house and yard.

You can help loosen up the coat by running your hands and fingers all over it, massaging the skin. A few say this helps fuel new coat growth. In any case, it helps to speed the shedding process and is pleasing for the dog.
<div
